Just a quick blog today from the Romance Writers of America’s annual conference. The kick-off event is the Literacy Booksigning, open to the public, where 500 Romance authors sign books donated by the publishers. Proceeds of the sale of the books gtoes to a literacy program in the city where the conference is held. The event usually makes thousands of dollars for literacy.
This year my friend Julie (R) coordinated the booksigning, a 7 am to 8pm job involving at least 100 volunteers (including me). Here she is with Mary Blayney (L), who acted at the coordinator of set-up.
The room in the Dolphin Resort Hotel was huge!
Here’s what the room looked like before the main part of the set-up was completed.
At 5 pm the authors started gathering.
Shortly after 5;30 pm the signing was in full swing.
If I had not been so tired after greeting old friends and meeting new ones, I might have remembered to take a photo of what the room looked like after it was over.
Tomorrow the worskshops start and in the evening more parties and time to be with friends.
Monday I’ll share more photos on Risky Regencies.
Until then……

I wanted so badly to be there this year. Maybe another year I will be able to make it. I made Nashville reservations before the flood, so I’m here, but RWA is not
I’m sure hoping that RWA does go to Nashville someday
I didn’t know about the proceeds going to a literacy program in the city – how wonderful.
It sounds all very exciting but tiring lol.
exciting and tiring. Exactly!
What was nice was they gave some of the proceeds to a Literacy program in Nashville.
Oh, how very nice. I was feeling sorry for Nashville. I hope they have it there next year.
Ha ha. By Thursday I felt like the conference should be over. I got my second wind though.
How exciting! Have fun!! And looking forward to hearing all about it.
more next Thurs. And some on Risky Regencies!
I can imagine what it looked like after!
The photos don’t quite do it justice.
We made $55,000 for Literacy.
When I left Sherrilyn Kenyon and Diana Love were still signing with about 30 people in line for them. And I left about 1/2 hour after it was over!
Diane, it sounds like a lovely time. I’m sure I would be black and blue from pinching myself, being surrounded by so many wonderful and dedicated authors.
Congrats on the proceeds for Literacy. That is totally amazing!
It really is an amazing experience, Deb!
*waving* It was great to finally meet you face to face, Ms Gaston!
It was WONDERFUL seeing you, azteclady!! But since we hugged, you can call me Diane!
