A New Year Status Report

Not only do I believe in making New Year’s Goals (see Monday’s Risky Regencies Blog but I also think this time of year is a good time to take stock in Where-One-Is-Right-Now. A status report!

1. Writing Life – Chivalrous Captain, Rebel Mistress is released from Mills and Boon in the UK this month, and for a little while over the weekend it hit Number 3 in sales at millsandboon.co.uk . The third book in the series, “Gabriel’s Story, is on the editor’s desk, complete, revised, and awaiting the final copy edits. Now I’m writing an Undone that connects with the third book and features characters you meet in that book.

Research Life – I have purchased several research books with my Christmas Amazon gift cards and I’m currently reading London’s Sinful Secret by Dan Cruikshank. “The Bawdy History and Very Public Passions of London’s Georgian Age.” I also just bought the books (not ebooks) mentioned at Number One London.

3. Life with Friends – You know about my visit to the National Gallery of Art. Last night I had a potluck dinner with my friends Julie and Carol. Our little threesome bonded during our 2005 England tour and have been friends since.

northandsouth4. Entertainment Life – no, I didn’t do anything exciting for New Year’s Eve. I stayed home and watched The Count Of Monte Cristo, my latest Netflix movie. But this week dh and I purchased a Roku device that lets us stream the Watch Instantly Netflix movies to our TV. The first night I watched North and South (loved it, as everyone said I would!) and last night I watched An Education (also loved it). I have a whole list of movies I can see! I love this device!!!!

    1. Writing Life – The self-help book is coming along; it’s more than half done. It’s currently opened on my desktop, and I’ve been doing some editing. BFF has offered to edit when it’s finished. Yay!

    2. Research Life – I’ve been reading Mary Balogh’s The Huxtables and wanting to tackle my Historical trilogy again. I’m also doing research on how to improve me with a lot of reading.

    3. Life with Friends – Trying to be better about checking on friends’ blogs and make comments. :-)

    4. Entertainment Life – Reading, reading, reading. No surprise there. LOL!

      Judy!
      1. Way to go on the Self Help book!!! I know BFF will do a great job of editing.
      2. I love Mary Balogh! And I love to read “improve me” books.
      3. You did great at coming to my blog and commenting, although you are one of my most faithful commenters.
      4. Good for you for reading!

  2. 1. Writing Life – finish rewrites of manuscript # 3 AND write and complete manuscript # 4

    2. Research life – read more of the towers of research books I have before I buy anymore!

    3. Life with friends – go more places when I am asked rather than constantly saying “But I have to write.” It won’t kill me to go to a movie or a play every now and then. Try to come up with the money to attend Nationals this year in New York so I can see all of my writing friends!

    4. Entertainment life – read more of the stacks of books on my TBR piles!

      Louisa!
      1. Get to it!!
      2. Oh, I think you could squeeze out $ for one more research book..or two…or three.
      3. On second thought, save those $ so you can come to National!
      4. Get to it!!

Happy New Year! Yeah for hitting the number 3 spot for a bit, Diane. That had to feel good. When is Gabriel’s book due out?

I am striving to be more organized in the coming year and more goal oriented, both in big things and little things. It’s so easy to think I’d like to accomplish something, yet never get around to it. So I am setting more specific goals that include a date I’d like to achieve them by. I’m hoping this will keep me on track. Also, I know my tendency to like to cross items off a list, so I am going to make lots of lists in the coming year!

So true. Sometimes we spend too much time thinking of and planning for the future and forget what the present has to offer.
