Yesterday I was on my way out to a Merle Norman store when I backed up into my daughter’s boyfriend’s company car. I didn’t do a great deal of damage; just a dented fender on his car and put scratches on mine, but it definitely put a pall on my day.
My advice is, always look before you back up, even if you think the way is clear….
Now I have to go to all the trouble of getting the car fixed and putting daughter’s bf through the inconvenience of it all as well. Arrggghhh!!!!
I did try to set it all aside when I was in Merle Norman. Have you heard of this place? Merle Norman manufactures and sells make-up and skin care products and has done so for 80 years. I used their products for years and years, but the store I purchased from closed. It has been over a decade since I knew the company still existed. Turns out there is a store quite near to me.
The salesladies there demonstrated the products on my face and I purchased foundation, cleanser, eye liner, and night cream. I’ll definitely return.
Turns out the ladies are readers and I wished I’d had some backlist books with me to give to them. Lori Wilde recommends carrying books with you wherever you go. I should have listened….
Do you love make-up like I do? What brands do you use?
Have you ever had a fender bender?
This weekend I’ll be at Washington Romance Writers Spring Retreat. I’ll give you a report next week.

I’m not big on make-up.
I crashed through our front gate. I actually crashed into the corner post, took out the gate & some of the fence. The corner post caught the car dead centre in the front. I hit it with such force I bend the number plate in half & destroyed he air conditioning unit sitting just in front of the motor. Insurance is a wonderful thing to have.
omigosh, Mary. THAT was a terrible day, I’m sure!
I live in fear of backing out of the garage and forgetting to open the garage door first.
Thank goodness for insurance!!!!
Wearing makeup is a conscious effort. I know I feel different when I take the time to wear it, like I’m worth the trouble.
I’ve been in three accidents: In one, I wasn’t driving. In the other two, I was hit by men turning left. And they talk about women drivers.
Your retreat sounds wonderful! I’ll be at the Desert Rose Writers’ Conference. My first. I’m excited and nervous. I look forward to hearing all about your weekend!
Oh, Judy!!! Have a WONDERFUL time!!!! There is nothing like a first conference.
We can trade stories next week….
I wore Merle Norman makeup all through high school and college! My aunt took me to the shop in Brookwood Village in Birmingham the first time.
I don’t wear makeup at work as I spend all day either in a freezer or in an industrial kitchen. Tends to wreck my makeup and what I wear now is a bit expensive. Only those who see me at RWA Conferences see me in full “war paint” as my brothers call it.
I had a few fender benders when I was younger. Had one when I was in grad school in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. A doctor’s wife in a Mercedes slammed on breaks in front of me and WHAM! Not fun!
Have fun at the retreat!
I was in Georgia last year when I discovered a Merle Norman store. I was ecstatic!!! Then I went looking for one near me and found one! I feel like I’ve come home again.
You look good in war paint!
I don’t use much make up and when I do, I prefer something light.
We had a similar accident recently. My daughter has been stressed out with new job (while still doing her old one – both 60 hour a week jobs-, new baby (who is nursing), and a husband with serious health issues. Darling granddaughter was sick so couldn’t go to childcare. I had meetings, so my DH drove up to take care of her (65 miles away). Daughter came home from work at lunch to nurse the baby. She hopped in her car, threw it in reverse thinking of the hundreds of things she needs to do, and backed into the side of my husband’s truck with her new car. First thought – there isn’t a tree there.
She came back into the house in tears. No one was hurt, so no big deal. We both have the same military related insurance company. She called to report the accident and gave her information. When he asked who she hit, she said “My dad.” There was a pause on the other end, then the agent said “You mean the Colonel?” Yep, nice to know they know their policy holders. We can’t believe it cost so much to repair the vehicles. The deductible certainly wasn’t something they needed right now.
Hope you had no problem getting everything squared away after you fender bender.
Oh your poor daughter!!
