New Year’s Resolutions

Do you make New Year’s Resolutions? I do. The usual. Lose weight. Exercise more. Become more organized and disciplined.

The fact that my resolutions are almost exactly the same every year does not deter me. To me, the new year is a signal for a new beginning. So, even though I added a few pounds over Christmas, I can start losing again with the new year. And exercise more. And become more organized and disciplined.

The truth is, we can always have a new start. No matter how many times we’ve slacked off, we can always reset and start anew. In fact, that is the important thing. Not that we need improvement, but that we can always start again, try again. Improve.

So I believe in New Year’s Resolutions….Do you???

Yes, I do. The new year is a perfect opportunity to reflect. Have I lost weight from last year? No, but I am in better condition because I did my exercises and even increased them. My eating isn’t perfect, but it’s better than it was a year ago. If I make the same kind of improvement this year, I’ll be doing a lot better. My room isn’t the haven I wanted, yet, but I’ve made some choices this past year that will make creating the haven easier now. This past year, I learned about deadlines that will make this year’s writing schedule less brutal. :-)

That’s the way, Judy! Showing yourself that you DID make improvements over the last year is a very positive way to approach New Year’s resolutions.

I, too, did better than last year (well, except for the exercising part…), but now it is a good time for a new start!

  2. I believe in them! I make some of the same ones every year and I usually discard some, add some new ones. Every little bit of progress on any of them I count as a victory. I also try to give myself some new incentives and some new inspiration – a news clipping, a photograph, something to inspire me!

I don’t really hold with New Year’s resolutions. I tend to make them at more pivotal moments of my life.

That’s another perspective, Mary. The “system” works, no matter the timing. One can “re-start” at any time. One can set a goal at any time.
