This week Victoria Hinshaw came to town and my friend Julie Halperson and I met her for a day at the National Gallery of Art, one of my favorite places! I’ve talked about it before here and I’ll probably talk about it again.
We came to see the special Pre-Raphaelite exhibition. The Pre-Raphaelites were a group of British artists who shook the art world, starting in 1848, by rejecting traditional approaches to painting in their scientific precision, innovative subject matter, and use of brilliant colors. Lots of the images will be familiar to romance readers. And who isn’t familiar with William Morris prints?
We had a lovely lunch, too, in the museum’s cafe. The food was British-themed.
Oddly enough, even more than the exhibit, I enjoyed the museum’s sculptures

Gloria Victis by Marius-Jean-Antonin Mercie (1845-1916)
And, as is our habit, we spent plenty of time in the rather fabulous giftshop.

I didn’t buy the hat….
What special times with friends have you had lately?
I have one more image to show you…My new bookcover! A Reputation for Notoriety will be released May 21, 2013.

Oh happy memories! I loved the National Gallery of Art!
Really love the new cover, Diane! You have such gorgeous heroes on your books!
I am forced to agree about this cover, Deb!
And whenever I eat lunch at the National Gallery of Art’s cafe I think of that unusually cold spring day when you and I had the most leisurely lunch there. What a treasured memory!
Moments ago, I returned from a couple of hours chatting with writing friends at our favorite eatery, P.Croissant. What a joy! So glad you had a wonderful time! How fun!
It is always a joy to be with writing friends! Glad you had the chance even if it wasn’t at an art gallery!
Gorgeous cover.
My daughter can’t walk past a hat without trying it on.
OOOH! I love that cover! Can’t wait to read this one.
Sadly I don’t get to spend nearly as much time with friends in outings like this one as I would like. The last one I remember was during Nationals in New York when a group of us visited the Pompeii Exhibit at the Discovery Museum. Amazing exhibit!
